I'm the original comPOST Pack - a certified home compostable, fully biodegradable mailing satchel partly made from plants. I have a lovely, matt finish with printed graphics as per the image gallery. I'm flat (i.e. no gusset, but some stretch) with a flap and self-seal strip.

Check the Sizing Guide in the image gallery as the bag thickness and number of seals varies by size. 

I behave just like a plastic satchel except when left in nature! In a home compost I will biodegrade in 3-6 months and can also be commercially composted. Find out how.

As these bags get closer to their expiry date they will begin the degradation process. This means that their seals may begin to weaken and labels may not stick so well.

Our comPOST Range is designed for minimal impact

STAGE 1

Materials

RENEWABLE PLANTS (MOSTLY CORN) & PBAT 

Our comPOST Range is made from totally biodegradable and compostable materials; corn starch, PLA (synthesised from corn) and PBAT (Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate). PLA (Polylactide) is a bio-based, biodegradable material made from renewable plant material (starches such as corn husks, rice straw and wheat straw).

While the materials used to form our comPOST Range are biodegradable and compostable, they are not however 100% renewable as the PBAT component is derived from petroleum-based materials. We are limited at the moment by the availability of suitable, sustainable raw materials that deliver the barrier and performance properties we need but are always testing resins made from an even greater amount of plant-based material – exciting times! This combination of materials is non-toxic and contains no Phthalate or Bisphenol A (BPA). The inputs to our products are certified free of GMO material

STAGE 2

Production

CLOSE TO ZERO WASTE . SOME RENEWABLE ENERGY

We have worked super-hard with our production facilities to ensure that our comPOST Packs, comPOSTubble Bags and comPOLY Bags are made in a zero waste process. For our comPOSTlabels and comPOSTape, it's a bit trickier, but we're getting closer all the time.

STAGE 4

End-of-Life

CERTIFIED HOME &/OR INDUSTRIALLY COMPOSTABLE 

 

Products in this range are fully biodegradable and will be broken down naturally by microbes in a composting environment. They will NOT create micro plastics.

 

Products carrying a Home Compostable certification will break down within 180 days in a home compost. If you don't have a home compost, you might want to think about starting one, it's a great way to keep food scraps out of landfill and return nutrients to the soil. Composting not your bag? We also have a network of Collection points where you can drop off your used packaging instead.

Products carrying the Seedling Compostable logo require the more intense conditions of a Commercial composting facility to break down.
